- 2 lb ground beef
- ½ medium onion (diced)
- ½ medium green pepper (diced)
- 1 tsp garlic salt (more or less to taste)
- 2 tsp black pepper (more or less to taste)
- 1 Tbsp yellow mustard
- 2 ½ cups ketchup
- ½ cup brown sugar (packed)

Dice the onion and pepper.
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper. Season with garlic salt and pepper while cooking.
Drain off the excess grease.
Stir in the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly - adjust the amounts as necessary.
Reduce heat and simmer for at least 30 minutes.
This recipe is very versatile - add and subtract any seasonings or sauces you want.
Make Ahead: This is a great recipe to make ahead. You can prepare the sloppy joes then dump it all in a crockpot on low for a few hours (if it looks like it's drying out, just add some more mustard, ketchup, and barbecue sauce.)
Freeze: You can also cook this up then let it cool and freeze it in air-tight containers. To use, just thaw and reheat.
