½lbcaramels*(32 caramels - or make caramel sauce and leave out the evaporated milk below. See note for recipe.)
5Tbspevaporated milk or cream(omit if using homemade caramel sauce)
1cupall-purpose flour
1cupquick oats
¾cupbrown sugar(packed)
½tspbaking soda
¼tspsalt
¾cupbutter(melted)
Toppings:
1cupsemi-sweet chocolate chips
½cupnuts(chopped)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°.
Either make homemade caramel sauce or combine 1/2 lb caramels with the 5 Tbsp of evaporated milk in a saucepan and melt.
Let the caramel sauce cool slightly.
In a bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar, baking soda, salt, and butter.
Press half of the crust mixture into a 7x11 baking pan and bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven, sprinkle with the chocolate chips and chopped nuts, then spread the caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle the remaining crumbs over everything.
Return to the oven and bake another 15-20 minutes.
Cool then chill for 1-2 hours.
