Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp unflavored powdered gelatin
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 5 Tbsp white sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla (omit if you're making a flavored panna cotta)
  • pinch salt

Instructions:

  • Pour the milk in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Sprinkle the gelatin over the milk and let sit for 5 minutes to soften the gelatin.
  • Stirring constantly, heat over medium heat just until the gelatin is dissolved, but the milk hasn't boiled – about 5 minutes.
  • Add the cream, sugar, and salt.
  • Continue to heat and stir until the sugar dissolves – about 2 minutes.
*Rub a little of the mixture between your fingers and be 100% sure that there are no granules left, otherwise it will not set up.
  • Remove from the heat, stir in the vanilla, then allow to cool somewhat.
  • Pour evenly into 8 ramekins, small jars, or glass cups.
  • Cover and refrigerated until set – at lease 6 hours and up to 2 days.

Notes:

Make Ahead:
This is perfect for making ahead, since it needs to set up for several hours.
These are really good served with berries.
We served them in 4-oz jars to a crowd and it seemed to be a good amount for each person.
