Ingredients

  • 1 9-inch pie crust (prepackaged or homemade – see note)
  • 1 5.85oz box chocolate pudding (or homemade – see note)
  • 11/2 cups whipping cream (or 3 cups whipped)
  • cup powdered sugar (more or less to taste)

Instructions:

  • Prepare the crust (homemade or prepackaged) and fully bake it.
  • While the crust bakes, prepare the pudding. Either make 1 recipe of homemade or 1 5.85 box. *If you make homemade, you will probably want to thicken it a bit more than the recipe says.
  • Set the pudding aside to set up.
  • Whip the cream until it's thick then gradually add the powdered sugar until it's sweet enough.

Assembly:

  • When the crust is baked, the pudding is set up, and the cream is whipped; gently fold the pudding and whipped cream together then pour it into the crust. (You may not need all the whipped cream – you can spread the leftover cream over the top.)
  • Place the pie in the fridge to cool for at least 1 hour.

Here is my homemade chocolate pudding recipe – it might need a bit more thickening to be used for pie.
Make Ahead: This is a good recipe to make early in the day because it’s best if it can chill for a couple hours before serving. You can also prepare the crust ahead of time.
