  • 2 lb ground beef
  • ½ medium onion (diced)
  • ½ medium green pepper (diced)
  • 1 tsp garlic salt (more or less to taste)

  • 2 ½ cups ketchup
  • ½ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce

Instructions:

  • Dice the onion and pepper.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper. Season with garlic salt and pepper while cooking.
  • Drain off the excess grease.
  • Stir in the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly – adjust the amounts as necessary.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for at least 30 minutes.

Notes:

This recipe is very versatile – add and subtract any seasonings or sauces you want.
Make Ahead: This is a great recipe to make ahead. You can prepare the sloppy joes then dump it all in a crockpot on low for a few hours (if it looks like it’s drying out, just add some more mustard, ketchup, and barbecue sauce.)
Freeze: You can also cook this up then let it cool and freeze it in air-tight containers. To use, just thaw and reheat.
