Ingredients

  • 2 lb sirloin tip roast (very thinly sliced)
  • 10 Tbsp soy sauce (special diet note – verify gluten free)
  • 3 Tbsp white sugar
  • ½ cup green onion (thinly sliced)
  • 4 Tbsp garlic (minced)
  • 4 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 4 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  • Thinly slice the meat. It's easiest to do this if the meat is still somewhat frozen.
  • Combine all of the ingredients in a gallon Ziploc bag.
  • Seal and mix until the meat is thoroughly covered.
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.

Cooking the Meat:

  • Grilling: Quickly grill the meat on a hot grill until slightly charred and cooked through – 1-2 minutes per side.
  • Skillet: Pour in enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom of the skillet. When the grease is hot, add enough beef to cover the bottom.
When it browns on one side, flip the beef over and brown the other, making sure it is cooked through – 4-7 minutes.
Continue cooking a layer of beef at a time until you have cooked all of the meat.

Extra Marinade:

  • You can pour the extra marinade into a saucepan and bring it to a boil for 5-10 minutes. Pour it over the meat to keep it moist.

Notes:

Make Ahead: Bulgogi is best marinated for several hours. It also works well to cook the meat earlier in the day and keep it warm in the crockpot.
