Ingredients
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar (packed)
- 2 Tbsp corn syrup (see note below)
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, combine the cream, butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup.
- Bring to a boil over medium/high heat (about 5-6 minutes), whisking occasionally.
- When it begins to boil, reduce heat and boil gently for 3 minutes more.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Allow sauce to cool for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes:
Make Ahead: This is very easy to make ahead of time and reheat before serving.
*Corn syrup keeps the sauce from crystalizing, but if you don’t have corn syrup, you can replace it with 3/4 water & 1/4 lemon juice. So for 2 Tbsp corn syrup you would use 4 1/2 tsp water and 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice. (You don’t have to use the exact ratio, but if you added much more lemon juice, it would make the caramel sauce taste funny.)
**Some people have used honey successfully as a substitute for the corn syrup, but I’ve never tried it.
